Group project update

I had a problem with the first bench I made here is the problem
So I did it again. But we won't use the second in the film either because it had to many points which would make rendering really slow. I'm still learning so I learned from Lyn what I did wrong. In the end she did one to show me what I did wrong and we will use it.
I have also began modeling the dragon. I used Kristi's references and some of the ones I used to come up with a basic design. Here are the references.

Bellow are the models so far in Maya. They still need a lot of work before I can say the modeling of the dragon is finished.

More group film

We decided to go with the second option.

We split everything equally among each other so we can all do the same amount of work and same amount of learning in different areas.

My responsibility is everything to do with the dragon character from the design to the final rendering of it. Also we split the background and I am supposed to model a bench for the park.

Here are other 3D animations I found on line on how a 3D simple bench is made to look like.

Final film idea

I have some sort of idea and its the same topic mentioned before. It will involve flamingos. Here are some references so far

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBKtB5siRGw&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIjJ0iB3k6U&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xXhTkBpr6E&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXOQhiDxq1w&feature=related

Here is actual animated references to the animated dance part I want to do I found this while researching
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-rgaic9UMM&feature=related

But at the same time I want a children's narrative feel to it like these animation

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGaqFTxwfXM&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtUmrV1F0Ao&feature=related

The point of doing such narration I believe is because I want to make it like a children's book. A big influence on when it comes to making a story is Dr. Seuss. I like how he uses narration and also how his stories always have some sort of lesson for the kids.

Since my idea is talking about being different and trying to find your place in the world all the flamingos will look the same while the main character will look totally different.

This is a link for information about flamingos so I can know where they live and how they look and so on.

Getting ideas for group film

Here is actually what we have so far for a thought process.

We have 2 options:

OPTION 1) the story has 2 characters - 1 human character and 1 dragon - Nadine - model and animate and etc. the dragon, and Lyn and Kristi can model the character and Lyn and Kristi share the the background.
The story: A girl is walking her dragon, and tries to pull the dragon, and trips and falls etc. In the end the dragon gets mad and blows fire out of his mouth and burns the girl. We can make it look funny.

OR (IF EACH ONE WANTS TO HAVE THEIR OWN CHARACTER)

OPTION 2) the story has 3 characters - 1 girl and 1 boy and 1 dragon - Nadine models the dragon, Krisit model one human and you model the other human, and all three split the background.
The story: A boy is walking her dragon, he sees a girl in the park and tries to impress her. He pulls the dragon, and trips and falls etc. In the end the dragon gets mad and blows fire out of his mouth and burns the boy and goes to the girl.

Things to do:
character design
storyboard
character modelling
background modelling
rigging
texturing
lighting
animating
rendering
effects

Professional Practice

Here are the list of things we choose from. We have to choose at least 2 of them. I'm putting them here so I can remember.

Work on 3rd yr/ MA films
Work with DFT students to produce animated documentaries(eg. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JPmVBxsTa8)
Create film shorts for download on an early learning web site (http://www.earlylearninghq.org.uk/)
Develop a pitch for the Welsh Sinfonia
Work placements could be included as part of this brief – you would
need to the submission a written report about your experience, plus visual evidence of your placement.

I have already signed up to help two 3rd year groups.
  1. the first one is to do clean up, color, photoshop work and any after effects in the short animation Acorn.
  2. The second is to help the 3D group animate
For the second option I am still not sure what exactly I would like to do. The ones in a different color are the ones that seem the most appealing to me.

Group project

As a group we have decided to do the HUMAN MOVEMENT EXERCISES:

1. Animate a human character walking conveying a particular emotion that reflects his/her personality;
2. Animate a human character restraining a four-legged animal on a lead when it unexpectedly pulls him/her during a walk;
3. Animate a human character tripping over an object falling flat to the ground;
4. Animate a human character pulling on a rope which unexpectedly snaps;
5. Animate a human character throwing a ball in the air which unexpectedly returns heavy.

We have also decided that we will be doing them in 3D because as individuals that is what we want to learn and end up doing.

We have some story line around the exercises but we are still not sure how it will go exactly. The idea is that our main human character will be based on Lyn's personality and so on. The other character will be a dragon. In the story we will use the exercises as guides for the story but we will not follow them one hundred percent because we want also to great a story that works not just do the exercises.

New Semester

I was just making a list of things that I have to do for my final film proposal here they are below:

  1. synopsis
  2. treatment
  3. inspiration
  4. aspiration
  5. production schedule
  6. budget
  7. research / references
  8. concept art work
  9. storyboards
  10. character designs
  11. scripts
  12. background
  13. animatic
  14. 30 second animation test
I also began thinking of what my final film can actually be about. It will be very personal and will be about finding out one is meant to be in the world and the society that they are in and that in the end not everyone fits in all the time thats what makes the world so great.
It will be about a lost sole and how it is finding the place it is meant to be in. It is still a very broad idea in mind and will need more developing as the semester goes on.

So far inspirations have come from the Disney Pixar film Ratatoi because it has sort of the same story line. It also has some Ugly Duckling inspiration.

Also I have decided to do the entire film in 3D because that is what I want to do after graduation and this film will hopefully give me both the time to learn more and show my skill in that area.
